Bulk edit Shopify metafields

Airtable's spreadsheet interface makes it the easiest way to add metafields to your Shopify data, and to edit existing metafields. You no longer have to install separate apps, and then have to navigate their slow interfaces. Here is how you can set up your Shopify-Airtable integration to handle metafields. We'll use the example of adding metafields to a product, but the same process applies to orders, variants, customers, etc.

First, we need to create the columns that we'll use to store the product Metafields:

  • Open the Airtable table where Shopify product information is synced to
  • Add a new text column for every Metafield you want to store, and give it an appropriate name
  • In the example image below we've added a column for a "Certifications" Metafield

Second, open the AirPower config via your Shopify admin. Create a Shopify-to-Airtable or Airtable-to-Shopify sync profile, or both, depending on which direction you want to sync metafields. Open the profile, and go to the Metafields tab. Find the Products section, and below the column mapping settings you'll see a section to configure metafields. Add a new row:

  • Put "custom_fields" into the Namespace column
  • Put the name you want to use for your Metafield into the "Shopify Field Name" column
  • Fill out the "Airtable Column" field with the name of the Airtable column where the Metafield should synchronize to and from

In the example image below we've added a mapping for the Certifications Metafield we created earlier

Advanced set up - Linking metafields to another table

In the standard set up the columns that are mapped to your metafields are basic text or number columns. This is perfect for almost all set ups, but in the event that you want to link your metafield data to another table then AirPower has you covered. When setting up your metafield row, if you select an Airtable column that is a linked column, you will be presented with a "Column links to another sheet" option. Toggle the option to "enabled" and tell AirPower what sheet the metafield values need to come from.
